The story, set in a small town, centers around the relationship of two freshmen struggling with their outcast status at their local high school. Alicia, an average girl who lacks enough self confidence to stand up for herself and Peter, an intelligent nerd who is at times too intelligent for his own good, are teamed up together for a school project. Soon it becomes apparent that a comradery is formed between the unlikely two, and with the help of a local eccentric who becomes a mentor figure, they come to understand not only themselves more, but come to uncover and define a purpose. And that purpose pits them against their strongest adversaries. Through their trials and tribulations they set an example for others, an example that states that change is possible and standing up doesn't mean you stand alone.
